In a significant milestone for the Human Resources profession in Kenya, a total of 708 candidates have successfully achieved Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) status through the Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB). The candidates, comprising 159 males (22%) and 549 females (78%), completed their examinations during the June 2024 and November 2023 periods, along with a smaller group from earlier exam series.
The CHRP exams, traditionally held twice a year, will see an expansion starting in 2025, with three examination windows introduced in April, August, and December to enhance accessibility for aspiring HR professionals.
The HRMPEB, established under the HRMP Act of 2012, is responsible for developing curricula and certifying HR professionals, making the CHRP certification a recognized credential that signifies a high standard of proficiency in the field. Upon certification, individuals are officially gazetted in the Kenya Gazette, marking their status as certified professionals.
This certification is increasingly vital in today’s competitive job market, serving as a key requirement for registration with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM). It not only bolsters career advancement opportunities but also empowers HR professionals to make informed decisions that drive organizational success in both government and private sectors.
Recent accreditation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has further elevated the standing of CHRP certification, facilitating international career opportunities for graduates and showcasing Kenya’s expertise in HR on a global platform.
As Kenya moves towards its Vision 2030 and the G4 agenda, the role of certified HR professionals is critical in enhancing organizational efficiency and contributing to economic development. With an increasing number of professionals opting for CHRP certification, the future of HR in Kenya looks promising, positioning certified individuals as key drivers of sustainable growth and progress in the workforce.
