FIRST MULTI-SECTORAL PEACE AND SECURITY COMMITTEE IN PLACE.

Midrift Hurinet a non-governmental organisation together with Nairobi County Commission has put in place the first Multi-sectoral Peace and Security Committee bringing State and non-State actors to develop a standard operating procedures and platforms to discuss matters peace and security.
The NGO works around three key thematic areas of peace and security, governance and human rights, convened a national conference bringing all eight regional commisdioners to unpack what a circular from the County Commission Principal Secretary released in July 2024.
Mr. David Wanyonyi, the Nairobi County Commissioner said the regional Multi-sectoral Peace and Security Committees was launched in September and is supposed to be rolled out to County levels.
At the sametime, Mr. Joseph Omondi, the Executive Director of Midrift Hurinet told journalists that the Multi-sectoral coordination and collaboration forum is very important because it brings both State and non-State actors to speak about peace and security, "we have brought the youths, women, the private sector and the Nyumba-Kumi in a platform to discuss matters peace and security" he said, adding that Nairobi is the first County to launch the first Multi-sectoral coordination and collaboration so that other counties can learn from on how and what are the best practices in terms of rolling out this program.
Mr. Joseph Omondi also said Midrift Hurinet have organised another forum in Nakuru and Baringo so that they can launch theirs as well. "Also we will bring our respective resources whether human and financial to make sure agreed upon common agenda which is peace and security is implemented at the mashinani level" he said during the launch in Waridi Hotel Nairobi.
