Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to register for the Taifa Care program, a critical initiative under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, which is a priority for the Kenya Kwanza administration. His call comes amid concerns over low registration numbers for the program.
Speaking during a visit to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) with Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, Kindiki emphasized that this time, the government is determined to succeed, drawing lessons from past challenges in healthcare system implementation. “This time, we will succeed because we have learned from the challenges of previous attempts to implement the healthcare system. We will monitor progress closely and address any loopholes,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President also expressed optimism that the Taifa Care program would offer substantial benefits to all Kenyans, particularly addressing the pressing health challenges facing the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. To ensure smooth implementation, Kindiki announced plans to visit hospitals across the country.
His comments align with a recent directive from President William Ruto, who instructed the Ministries of Health and Education to enroll all students in the Taifa Care program under the UHC initiative.
The government's push for wider participation in Taifa Care highlights the administration's commitment to improving healthcare access and ensuring that every Kenyan is covered under the ambitious UHC goal.
