RAPID SUPPORT FORCES CLAIM MAJOR VICTORY IN SUDAN ’s GEZIRA STATE.

Khartoum, Sudan

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Friday that they had successfully eliminated an entire battalion of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the Habiba region, deep inside Gezira State.

In a statement issued by the RSF spokesperson, the paramilitary group claimed to have seized several military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition following the battle. The RSF also reported killing more than 260 enemy combatants, including high-ranking officers.

The RSF reiterated its commitment to fighting what it described as "Islamist militants and mercenaries" within the Sudanese military, vowing to press on until Sudan is "fully liberated and rebuilt on new foundations that eliminate oppression and marginalization."

This latest escalation comes amid an ongoing conflict between the RSF and the SAF, which has plunged Sudan into one of its worst crises since the conflict erupted in April 2023. The RSF has frequently framed its military operations as a struggle against Islamist factions within the SAF, while the SAF has accused the RSF of atrocities against civilians.

As the conflict rages on, fears of a deepening humanitarian catastrophe grow, with millions displaced and the country facing severe food and medical shortages.
