Khartoum, Sudan – March 31, 2025: The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have strongly condemned what they describe as the use of chemical weapons by the Sudanese Armed Forces, which they refer to as the “Islamic Movement Army.” The RSF alleges that these weapons were deployed in civilian areas and displacement camps in Shangil Tobaya, south of El Fasher in North Darfur, in violation of international laws and norms.
In a statement issued on Monday, the RSF claimed that the Sudanese military has repeatedly used internationally banned weapons, citing reports from American sources dating back to January. These reports, based on information from four senior U.S. officials, allegedly confirm multiple instances of chemical weapons use by the Sudanese army in different regions.
“The use of internationally prohibited weapons constitutes a full-scale genocide and a crime against humanity,” the RSF statement read. “It endangers innocent civilians, causing long-term physical and psychological suffering, and demonstrates blatant disregard for international treaties, including the Chemical Weapons Convention.”
The RSF called on the international community to take decisive action against these alleged war crimes, urging immediate investigations and accountability for those responsible. They emphasized the need for urgent intervention to protect displaced persons and refugees in Darfur.
Furthermore, the RSF asserted that they would not remain silent in the face of such alleged atrocities. They reiterated their commitment to defending human rights and safeguarding Sudanese citizens, declaring their goal to “liberate the entire country from the terrorist regime” and build a new Sudan based on the rule of law and protection of its people.
The statement concluded with a tribute to their fallen members, honoring them as martyrs.
These allegations come amid ongoing conflict in Sudan, where tensions between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces have escalated, leading to a worsening humanitarian crisis. The accusations of chemical weapons use, if verified, could trigger significant international scrutiny and potential legal action.
