April 10, 2025 – Khartoum, Sudan
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced a significant military victory on Thursday, declaring full control over the strategic town of Um Kadada in North Darfur after capturing the 24th Brigade base from Sudanese Armed Forces and affiliated militias.
In a statement released by the RSF spokesperson, the group said its fighters launched a decisive offensive against what it called “terrorist army units and mercenary movements,” resulting in the complete liberation of Um Kadada. The RSF reported seizing fully-equipped military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition left behind by retreating government forces.
According to the RSF, “hundreds” of enemy fighters were killed during the battle, while the rest fled the area. RSF units are reportedly continuing to pursue the fleeing troops to prevent regrouping.
“This victory marks a major step in our advance toward the complete liberation of Sudan,” the statement read, reiterating the RSF’s objective to dismantle what it described as remnants of the former regime and the ruling faction based in Port Sudan.
The statement concluded with a pledge to establish a new foundation for justice and governance in Sudan, and paid tribute to RSF fighters who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.
The RSF’s announcement is the latest in a series of claimed battlefield gains amid the protracted civil war that has gripped Sudan since April 2023, pitting the paramilitary force against the national army in a deadly struggle for power.
