SUPKEM REAFFIRMS OWNERSHIP OF HURUMA LAND, UNVEILS Ksh 24 BILLION DEVELOPMENT PLAN.

NAIROBI, Kenya – May 11, 2025 — The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) has reaffirmed its legal ownership of a six-acre parcel of land in Huruma, Nairobi, amid recent claims by local residents questioning the council’s stake in the property along Outering Road.

Speaking during a press briefing held on Saturday in Nairobi, SUPKEM’s founding members clarified that the land was officially allocated to the council in 1982 by the then Nairobi City Mayor. The allocation, they said, was part of a broader effort to support religious and social development programs for the Muslim community.

In a show of transparency, SUPKEM presented title deeds as proof of legal ownership and unveiled an ambitious Ksh 24 billion development plan to transform the currently idle land into a modern multi-use complex. The project will feature residential rental units, retail outlets, a modern mosque, malls, a supermarket, and other community-based facilities.

“This project represents not only an investment in infrastructure but also in the social and spiritual welfare of the Muslim community in Nairobi,” said SUPKEM founding member Al Hajj Shaban Bakari. “We have a historical responsibility to ensure that the land is used for the benefit of the community.”

The council estimates that the development will generate approximately Ksh 20 million monthly, which will be reinvested into additional projects across the country aimed at uplifting Muslim communities.

SUPKEM is now calling on members of the public, particularly the Muslim community, to engage in constructive dialogue and avoid speculation over the land’s ownership.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and inclusive development as it moves forward with its long-term vision for the property.
