The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have issued a strong condemnation of what they describe as a “terrorist attack” by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on a United Nations World Food Program (WFP) convoy in North Darfur, calling it a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

According to a statement released Tuesday morning by the RSF’s Office of the Official Spokesman, the SAF launched an airstrike Monday evening in the Al-Kuma area, targeting a humanitarian convoy en route to El Fasher. Preliminary reports from the Sudanese Humanitarian Relief and Operations Agency (SARHO) indicate that the strike killed four aid workers, injured two others, and destroyed seven vehicles.

“This terrorist attack constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and poses a grave threat to the lives of civilians and humanitarian workers,” the RSF said in the statement. The convoy had been transporting food and medical aid for people in Darfur and had reportedly been held for over 15 days by SAF intelligence in the Al-Dabba area before the strike.

The RSF accuses the SAF, which it described as operating “under the Islamic Movement,” of deliberately targeting the convoy to prevent aid from reaching desperate communities. The group also referenced previous incidents, including a deadly attack on the WFP’s Blue Nile headquarters and a strike on an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy, both allegedly carried out by SAF forces.

“This is not the first time that the SAF has targeted humanitarian aid organizations and workers,” the RSF stated. “We call on the international community to end impunity for crimes against humanity, hold the perpetrators accountable, ensure the protection of humanitarian workers, and respect international law.”

The latest violence comes amid a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where armed conflict between the RSF and SAF has displaced millions and left aid groups struggling to reach those in need.

There has been no immediate response from the SAF or the United Nations regarding the incident.

As tensions continue to escalate, humanitarian organizations are urging all parties to respect the neutrality of aid operations and guarantee safe passage for relief convoys.
