The awards were drawn from hundreds of entries submitted by SACCOs, transport associations, schools, universities, government bodies, and corporates, and were judged on the basis of demonstrable impact, innovation, and sustainability. Among the recognized initiatives were universities incorporating road safety into their curriculum, boda boda and matatu SACCOs enforcing safety gear policies and training programs, and companies implementing wellness checks, vehicle monitoring systems, and behavior change campaigns for their drivers.
AA Kenya President and African Council of Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTA) head Jinaro Kibet underlined the global importance of the awards, noting their contribution to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030) and Kenya’s Vision 2030. He also spotlighted AA Kenya’s international recognition, particularly its “Safe to Load” technology, which was recently named a finalist in the FIA Innovation Challenge 2024.
Timothy Keli, Director of Mobility Services at AA Kenya, emphasized the human side of road safety, saying, “Every statistic has a face, every number a name. The champions we recognize tonight have turned data into decisive action. This ceremony is not the finish line—it’s the launchpad for the next era of Kenyan road safety.”
The evening concluded with a resounding call for all stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to road safety by investing in continuous driver education, influencing policy reform, and fostering cross-sector collaboration toward the national goal of zero road deaths.
Among the night’s top winners were Mountain View Academy and Catholic University of East Africa in the education categories; Kangaroo SACCO and City E-Mobility in the public transport sectors; Bamburi Cement and British American Tobacco in corporate safety initiatives; and road safety champions Eng. Mary Abungu and Kevin Mubadi in the individual category. Community-based organization Sikika Road Safety was also recognized for its grassroots efforts.
