OFF-ROAD ENTHUSIASTS HONORED FOR DRIVING ROAD SAFETY IN REMOTE RUMURUTI.

In a significant acknowledgment of their impactful community work, Kichaka Patrol, the off-road enthusiast Community-Based Organization (CBO) renowned for its humanitarian initiatives, was among the distinguished recipients at the inaugural AA Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards Gala Dinner held last evening at the Pullman Hotel in Nairobi.

This recognition specifically highlighted their exceptional contributions to road safety, particularly within the remote Rumuruti region of Laikipia County. The gala, a landmark event for road safety in Kenya, gathered key figures from government, the private sector, academia, and civil society to celebrate those making tangible differences on the nation's roads. 

AA Kenya Group Managing Director Francis Theuri lauded all honorees, emphasizing that the awards served to "recognize excellence, inspire replication, and catalyze enduring change," reiterating that "road safety is everyone’s responsibility."

Kichaka Patrol was proudly honored in the highly competitive Motor Club of the Year category, a testament to their dedication extending far beyond leisure activities. Their recent Rumuruti Medical and Road Safety Outreach Camp, conducted from June 26 to 28, 2025, exemplifies the impactful initiatives that garnered the attention of AA Kenya.  During this vital outreach, Kichaka Patrol, in collaboration with partners like AA Kenya and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), achieved significant milestones in Rumuruti. 
They directly contributed to improving road safety for motorcycle taxi (bodaboda) operators by distributing 100 helmets donated by AA Kenya, a crucial intervention aimed at reducing head injuries and fatalities among this vulnerable group. Furthermore, working alongside the NTSA, the outreach facilitated registration and logbook issuance for bodaboda riders, promoting greater compliance and formalization within the sector in Rumuruti. 

Beyond road safety, the initiative also provided a much-needed free medical camp offering consultations and minor treatments, addressing urgent health needs, and distributed sanitary pads and learning materials to four local primary schools, including Logorate, Naibor Amani, Nachola, and PCEA Tuum Primary Schools. Jinaro Kibet, President of AA Kenya, highlighted that these awards align with global efforts like the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030) and Kenya’s Vision 2030, with Kichaka Patrol's recognition underscoring the profound power of volunteerism and cross-sector collaboration in driving sustainable community development in areas often overlooked by traditional aid mechanisms.
