El-Obeid, Sudan – August 3, 2025.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have announced significant military advances in their continued campaign against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied militias, particularly those aligned with the Islamic Movement. In a statement issued today, the RSF confirmed sweeping field victories and a strategic push toward El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
According to the RSF spokesperson, the official announcement of a new transitional government—referred to as the “Establishment Government”—has fueled their momentum, inspiring what the force described as “heroic battles marked by sacrifice and valor.”
The RSF claims to have captured several strategic areas around El-Obeid and says the advance is ongoing from multiple directions. As fighting intensifies, the group has issued a strong appeal to residents of El-Obeid to remain indoors and avoid venturing outside under any circumstances.
"We call on the citizens of El-Obeid to stay in their homes and avoid approaching military bases, especially those used by the Islamic Movement’s army or foreign mercenary groups,” the statement reads. “Our forces are committed to securing the city and ensuring full protection for its residents.”
Emphasizing discipline and adherence to international humanitarian law, the RSF assured the public that its operations are focused solely on dismantling what it labeled as "terrorist militias" affiliated with the Islamic Movement and mercenary groups that, it claims, threaten the country’s stability.
“Our battle is not against any social group or community within Sudan,” the spokesperson said. “Our goal is clear: to eliminate the Islamic Movement’s armed forces and its terrorist networks, paving the way for a new Sudan based on peace, freedom, and justice.”
The statement ended with tributes to fallen RSF fighters and reiterated the group’s resolve to continue its campaign until all remnants of the former regime and affiliated militias are removed.
The situation in El-Obeid remains fluid, with heightened tension as RSF forces approach the city. Humanitarian agencies are closely monitoring developments amid growing concerns for civilian safety.
