Khartoum, October 19, 2025.
The Peace Government’s Council of Ministers has issued a strong condemnation of recent aerial assaults targeting civilians in West and North Darfur, describing them as “terrorist airstrikes on defenseless populations.”
In a statement released on social media, the Council denounced the bombings as barbaric acts that violated international humanitarian law and called for an immediate end to the attacks. The government demanded a transparent international investigation to hold perpetrators accountable and urged humanitarian agencies to be granted unhindered access to affected areas.
According to the statement, residential neighborhoods and camps for internally displaced persons were among the areas hit by the airstrikes, resulting in severe civilian casualties and property destruction. Medical workers and aid convoys have reportedly been unable to reach the wounded due to ongoing insecurity and repeated aerial raids.
The Council blamed the attacks on what it termed the “remnants of the Islamist military regime and their militias,” accusing them of attempting to derail peace and destabilize the country. It further warned that such assaults threaten to undo the fragile progress made under the Juba Peace Agreement.
The Peace Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and called on the international community to intervene to stop the violence. “These crimes against humanity will not go unpunished,” the statement read, urging global partners to take decisive action.
Human rights observers have echoed the Council’s concerns, warning that continued airstrikes could escalate the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, where thousands remain displaced and in dire need of aid.
The condemnation underscores the government’s growing alarm over renewed violence in Darfur and its efforts to position itself as a protector of civilians amid ongoing instability.
