The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting civilians and restoring normal life in Al-Fashir, North Darfur, following what they described as the city’s “liberation” from the control of the Islamic Movement army and its allied militias.

In a media statement issued on Sunday, the RSF said it is acting “in commitment to international laws and charters” and under the directives of its leadership to ensure the safety and dignity of civilians within the city.

According to the statement, the RSF has established safe corridors for residents wishing to relocate and pledged protection for all those who remain in Al-Fashir. The force outlined a series of immediate measures aimed at stabilizing the city, including the facilitation of humanitarian aid, the reopening of essential services, and the deployment of federal police to maintain order.

> “Our forces announce the provision of safe corridors for anyone wishing to relocate to other areas, and the necessary protection for all those present within the city,” the statement read. “We pledge to make every possible effort to restore normal life in the city.”

The RSF said it will prioritize securing humanitarian convoys, reopening markets, hospitals, and water facilities, and working to clear landmines. The statement also emphasized humane treatment of prisoners “in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.”

The paramilitary group described its recent military operation in Al-Fashir as part of a broader campaign to “eliminate threats and dangers” posed by what it called “terrorist” forces.

> “This marks the continuation of efforts to consolidate security and stability and to build a Sudan based on the principles of peace, justice, and equality for all,” the RSF added.

The announcement comes amid heightened international concern over the humanitarian situation in Darfur, where months of intense fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have displaced thousands and disrupted aid deliveries.

Observers say the situation in Al-Fashir will serve as a key test of the RSF’s ability to govern areas under its control while ensuring civilian protection and compliance with international norms.
