The high-energy continental showdown brought together top young drivers from Kenya, South Africa, and Botswana, each showcasing precision, composure, and road safety awareness in a series of demanding tests. By the end of a thrilling day, Kabura’s steady hands and sharp judgment earned him the coveted title, bringing immense pride to the host nation.
A Contest of Skill and Responsibility
Unlike conventional speed-based competitions, the ABYD focuses on nurturing safe, responsible, and skilled drivers. Competitors faced six rigorous tests — including emergency tire changes, braking avoidance, bowl slalom, off-road handling, and damage reduction courses — all designed to mirror real-life driving situations.
“The African Best Young Driver competition is about shaping responsible drivers, not chasing speed,” said Daniel Kiprono, Head of the AA Kenya Driving School. “It’s a platform that equips youth with both confidence and discipline behind the wheel.”
Kenya Leads Africa in Safe Mobility
AA Kenya CEO Francis Theuri hailed the event as a landmark moment for Kenya’s road safety movement, crediting the country’s growing leadership in promoting safe driving habits among youth.
“Hosting the ABYD Finals in Naivasha is a milestone for Kenya. It shows our growing influence in creating a new generation of road users who combine skill with responsibility,” Theuri remarked.

Driving Africa’s Future Safely
The ABYD program, an initiative of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and implemented in Kenya by AA Kenya, has become a cornerstone of youth road safety empowerment. This year’s competition followed a national campaign involving over 2,380 young drivers from Eldoret, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Nairobi.
The finals were held alongside the WRC Safari Rally Kenya, with the Kenya Police Service reinforcing key safety messages to motorists — “DO NOT OVERLAP” and “KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING.”
Inspiring a Safer Generation
Beyond the trophies and applause, the 2025 ABYD Finals embodied Kenya’s commitment to fostering safer roads and empowering youth through responsible driving.
Kabura’s continental triumph on home soil signals not only personal victory but also a national milestone — one that cements Kenya’s position as a leader in cultivating Africa’s next generation of safe, skilled, and disciplined drivers.
