RSF ACCUSES SUDAN ARMY OF SABOTAGING PEACE EFFORTS, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR QUARTET INITIATIVE.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has issued a lengthy and strongly worded statement accusing the Sudanese army and Islamist factions of prolonging the conflict in Sudan, undermining international mediation efforts, and obstructing the path to a humanitarian truce.
In the statement released on Thursday, the RSF claimed that the war “imposed on Sudan by extremist Islamist groups” is a continuation of decades of violence linked to the former regime and its military institutions. The group argued that genuine peace can only be achieved through a political process that confronts the root causes of Sudan’s instability and rebuilds state institutions “on new foundations.”

RSF Blames Army for Atrocities and International Isolation

The RSF alleged that Sudan’s military, particularly since what it described as the infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood, has been responsible for a long history of brutality—including mass killings in South Sudan, genocidal campaigns in the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile, and atrocities in Darfur dating back to 2003. These crimes, the statement said, ultimately led to international arrest warrants and Sudan’s past designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The group asserted that the threat posed by Sudan’s army and allied Islamist factions “did not stop at Sudan’s borders,” claiming their involvement in supporting groups behind the U.S. Embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam and the attack on the USS Cole in Aden.

Criticism of International Statements

The RSF expressed regret over what it termed “biased statements” issued against it by international actors, arguing that such remarks reward parties that refuse peace. The group insisted that the route to stability requires recognizing “facts on the ground” and supporting a comprehensive peace process.

According to the statement, much of the criticism directed at the RSF is “in fact aimed at the Quartet Initiative” and efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration to advance peace talks, rather than undermining the RSF’s own commitments.

RSF Details Its Position in Six Key Points

The RSF outlined a series of claims clarifying its stance:

1. Islamist forces deserve international condemnation.
The RSF argued that the “Islamic Movement and its army,” not the RSF, should be classified and condemned, describing itself as fighting for “freedom, justice, and equality” and rejecting any transformation of Sudan into a hub for terrorism or corruption.

2. The army rejected ceasefire proposals.
The group claimed that the Sudanese army has publicly refused all ceasefire initiatives, including the Quartet-led humanitarian truce. The RSF said it formally accepted the truce on November 9, 2025, but has yet to receive a response from the U.S.

3. The RSF views the humanitarian truce as essential.
The group stressed that it supports the truce both as an entry point to comprehensive peace and as a means to address Sudan’s worsening humanitarian crisis. It accused the army of mobilizing civilians as “popular resistance” instead of committing to peace efforts.

4. The RSF denies receiving foreign support.
The statement rejected claims of external backing, asserting that it is the “Islamic Movement’s army” that receives foreign weapons, including alleged support from Iran, the Houthis, and the international Muslim Brotherhood network.

5. Calls for accountability over alleged war crimes.
The RSF accused the Sudanese army of using chemical weapons against civilians—citing U.S.
