Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have accused what they describe as the “Islamic Movement’s army” of carrying out a deadly drone strike on Saturday targeting the village of Kumo in the South Kordofan/Nuba Mountains region, killing at least 45 civilians, most of them schoolchildren, according to a statement released by the group.

The RSF said more than eight others were seriously injured, including women and children, calling the attack “a horrific violation” of international humanitarian law. The group described the strike as part of a “pattern of repeated targeting of unarmed civilians,” and labelled it “a full-fledged war crime” that should trigger national and international accountability.

The claims could not be independently verified, and the Sudanese Armed Forces have not issued an immediate response.

In its statement, the RSF said that the alleged attack on a civilian area, including educational facilities, represents a direct assault on “the right to life, safety, and education,” urging international and regional bodies, as well as human-rights organizations, to investigate the incident and ensure that perpetrators do not evade justice.

The group reiterated its commitment to defending what it called “the rights of the oppressed” and supporting Sudanese aspirations for “peace, freedom, justice, and equality,” while calling for greater protection of civilians amid the ongoing conflict.

The RSF concluded its statement by offering condolences to the families of the victims.
