SUDAN ’s RAPID SUPPORT SUPPORT FORCES ACCUSE ARMY OF DEADLY DRONE STRIKES IN NORTH DARFUR.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday accused the Sudanese Armed Forces of carrying out deadly drone strikes on civilian targets in North Darfur, describing the attacks as serious violations of international humanitarian law and potential war crimes.
In a statement released by its official spokesperson, the RSF said a Turkish-made “Akinci” combat drone allegedly operated by what it described as the “Islamist-affiliated army” struck the town of Al-Zurug and the area of Gharir in North Darfur state.
According to the RSF, the drone attack directly hit Al-Zurug Hospital, destroying the facility and killing more than 64 civilians, including medical staff. The group said the hospital was the only medical facility serving thousands of residents in the area, calling its destruction a “double crime” against civilians and their right to healthcare.
The RSF further alleged that the same drone targeted the main market in Gharir at peak hours, resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians, including women and children. The market was reportedly burned down completely, causing significant loss of life and livelihoods. The RSF said casualty figures were still being compiled.
“These attacks reflect a deliberate policy of targeting civilians and vital infrastructure,” the RSF said, condemning what it described as the Sudanese army’s continued assaults on unarmed civilians in Darfur and Kordofan regions.
The group criticized what it called the “suspicious international silence” surrounding violence against civilians and urged the international community, including the United States and international diplomatic groupings, to issue a clear condemnation and take action to protect civilians.
The RSF also called for an urgent, independent international investigation into the alleged attacks and demanded accountability for those who ordered and carried out the strikes, referring to Sudan’s army leadership as the “Port Sudan group.”
The statement concluded by asserting that the RSF reserves the right to respond to what it called ongoing violations and vowed not to remain passive in the face of attacks on civilians.
The claims made by the RSF could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the Sudanese Armed Forces regarding the allegations.
