A political aspirant in Makongeni Ward, Hon. Rose Apur is emerging as a rising grassroots leader, drawing attention for her journey from hardship to public service as she eyes the Member of County Assembly seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
Raised in the informal neighborhoods of Makadara Constituency, Apur says her early years were defined by poverty and limited opportunities. She recalls growing up in an environment where access to food and proper clothing was often a struggle, circumstances she says shaped her determination to pursue leadership and advocate for her community.
“Growing up in Makongeni without food or proper clothing never diminished my vision of becoming a leader capable of uplifting my people,”.
Her life took a significant turn at the age of 17 when she became a mother. Rather than abandoning her ambitions, Apur says the responsibility strengthened her resolve to succeed and contribute to society. By the age of 18, she had begun engaging in grassroots political activities, building networks and advocating for community issues.
Apur attributes part of her political growth to mentorship and inspiration from prominent leaders, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, and George Aladwa.
“My journey has been built on resilience, personal effort, and the guidance of leaders who believed in me,” she said.
Beyond her political ambitions, Apur has been involved in charitable initiatives within Makongeni Ward, distributing food and essential supplies to vulnerable families. She says the efforts are part of her commitment to supporting residents even before securing elective office.
Now seeking the Makongeni Ward MCA seat under the banner of the Orange Democratic Movement, Apur has outlined a development agenda focused on youth empowerment, supporting women-led businesses, improving sanitation, and creating sustainable opportunities for small-scale traders.
She also credits her faith for sustaining her through difficult moments, saying it has played a central role in her resilience and determination.
As the race toward the 2027 elections gradually takes shape, Apur’s story—from adversity to political aspiration—is resonating with many residents in Makongeni, who view her as a relatable figure committed to translating personal experience into meaningful community service.
