PRESIDENTIAL COUNCIL – GOVERNMENT OF PEACE STATEMENT ON THE CONTINUED IRANIAN ATTACKS ON THE ARAB GULF STATES.
BY NJOKI KARANJA.
The President and members of the Presidential Council of the Government of Peace express their strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attacks that targeted the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the Sultanate of Oman. These actions represent a serious violation of the sovereignty of states, a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, and an undermining of the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
The Presidential Council affirms its full solidarity and firm support for these brotherly nations and backs all legitimate measures they take to protect their national security and safeguard the safety of their territories and citizens. It also reiterates its condemnation of all forms of aggression that target the stability of the region or seek to undermine the regional security system.
In this context, the Presidential Council stresses the importance of all parties exercising the highest levels of wisdom and restraint and working to spare the region the dangers of sliding into cycles of escalation, in order to prevent it from becoming an open arena for international conflict that threatens regional and global peace and security.
The Presidential Council also draws attention to the growing risks associated with the expansion of networks of extremism and armed violence in the region. It expresses deep concern over reports of links and coordination between elements of the Islamic movement in Sudan and Iranian entities, including reports of Sudanese militias receiving training in Iran. This development poses a serious threat to Sudan’s security and the stability of the region and requires firm and serious attention from regional and international communities.
The President and members of the Presidential Council reiterate that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states constitute a fundamental pillar of regional security. Preserving state sovereignty, respecting international law, and refraining from the use or threat of force remain the best path toward strengthening peace and stability and fulfilling the aspirations of the peoples of the region for security and development.
