The Presidential Council of the so-called “Peace Government” has announced the death of prominent Sudanese political figure Osama Hassan Hussein, who was reportedly killed in a drone strike targeting his residence.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Council expressed “profound sorrow and grief” over the loss of Hussein, describing him as a “courageous hero” and a key member of the leadership body of the Sudan Founding Alliance, also known as “Ta’sis.” He also served as head of the Sudanese Alliance for Social Justice.
According to the statement, Hussein was killed following what the Council described as a targeted assassination carried out using a Turkish-made drone. The attack allegedly struck his home, bringing an end to what was characterized as a long-standing struggle marked by “dedication, selflessness, and service to national causes.”
The Council hailed Hussein as a prominent national leader who played a significant role in Sudan’s political and resistance movements. He was portrayed as a staunch advocate for freedom and justice, widely respected for his principles, humility, and commitment to collective action.
The statement further framed his death as a “martyrdom,” vowing that it would strengthen resolve among his allies to continue their political and military objectives. It reiterated calls to press forward with what it termed a “liberation project” aimed at defeating forces it accuses of extremism and achieving a peaceful and just state.
The Presidential Council extended condolences to Hussein’s family, colleagues, and supporters, as well as members of the Ta’sis alliance, urging resilience and unity during the mourning period.
The killing comes amid ongoing conflict and political fragmentation in Sudan, where rival factions continue to engage in armed confrontations and competing governance claims.
