The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially unveiled Samuel Muchina Nyaga as its candidate for the forthcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after presenting him with the party’s nomination certificate at Hustler Plaza.
Nyaga secured the party ticket following a tightly contested primary election held last Friday, where he garnered 3,221 votes to edge out his closest challenger, George Wamogo Kanori, who received 3,077 votes. The nominations attracted 10 aspirants, underscoring the high political stakes surrounding the seat.
During the certificate handover ceremony, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan said the party was ready to immediately embark on an aggressive grassroots campaign ahead of the July 16, 2026 by-election.
He noted that campaign teams would begin mobilization efforts across Ol Kalou constituency to secure victory for the ruling party in the mini-polls.
Party officials also praised the conduct of the nominations, describing the exercise as transparent and credible. They cited the use of the Electronic Voting System, which enabled rapid verification and transmission of results shortly after polling stations closed.
Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria used the occasion to challenge opposition parties, including the Jubilee Party and the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), to unveil their candidates and campaign agendas ahead of the contest.
Kuria expressed confidence in
UDA’s electoral strength, pointing to what he termed the party’s impressive performance in recent by-elections, where he claimed the party had recorded a 98 percent win rate.
Leaders attending the event further described the Ol Kalou seat as strategically important to the government’s development agenda in the Central Kenya region, with the by-election expected to serve as a key political test for UDA’s influence in the area.
Attention now shifts to the timelines set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which will oversee the July 16 by-election triggered by the recent vacancy in the constituency.
UDA officials are expected to intensify campaigns through a series of rallies and town hall meetings across Nyandarua County in a bid to consolidate support for Nyaga ahead of the vote.
