BABU OWINO SECURES KSh100,000 BAIL FOR ACTIVIST EZEKIEL 'MR. SPEAKER SIR' KYAMA.

Embakasi East MP and lawyer Babu Owino on Monday successfully secured the release of activist Ezekiel Kyama, popularly known as "Mr. Speaker Sir," after a Nairobi court granted him cash bail of KSh100,000.
Owino, who led Kyama's legal team, urged the court to uphold his client's constitutional right to bail, arguing that he should remain free as the case proceeds. The court agreed, ordering Kyama's release upon payment of the cash bail.

Kyama is facing charges linked to the June 2024 storming of Parliament during anti-government protests, an incident that resulted in significant property damage and numerous arrests. He has denied the allegations.
The ruling sparked celebrations outside the courthouse, where supporters welcomed Kyama's release, chanting slogans in support of the outspoken activist. Known for his bold activism and outspoken criticism of the government, Kyama has become one of the prominent faces associated with the Gen Z-led protests.

Addressing supporters after the ruling, Owino reaffirmed his commitment to defending the rights of protesters, saying every Kenyan is entitled to a fair hearing and due process under the Constitution.

The case is expected to draw continued public interest due to its political significance and its connection to the 2024 anti-government demonstrations. The court scheduled the next hearing for July 25, 2026, when further witness testimony and evidence are expected to be presented as the trial continues.
