NAIROBI, Kenya, July 3, 2026.
The ruling party, (UDA), has called for responsible journalism and greater media literacy among Kenyans, urging both journalists and the public to play their part in safeguarding the integrity of information in the country.
In a statement, the party emphasized that the media has a fundamental responsibility to inform citizens objectively, scrutinize institutions fairly, and foster constructive public discourse. It said a professional and ethical press is essential to strengthening democratic governance and maintaining public confidence.
UDA also appealed to Kenyans to exercise caution when consuming and sharing information, particularly in the digital age where misinformation can spread rapidly. The party encouraged citizens to consult multiple credible sources, verify information before forwarding it to others, and rely on official government communication channels for accurate updates.
“We advise Kenyans to cultivate media literacy by consulting multiple credible sources, verifying information before sharing it and relying on official government public communication channels,” the statement said.
While expressing concerns about sections of the media, UDA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professional and transparent engagement with all media houses. The party said it remains supportive of a media environment guided by integrity, professionalism and public trust.
It further underscored the importance of constructive collaboration between the media, government institutions and the public in promoting accountability and informed national dialogue.
The party concluded by urging journalists to uphold the principles of truth, fairness and accountability in their reporting, maintaining that responsible journalism remains indispensable to Kenya's democratic development and the promotion of an informed citizenry.
