Mohamed Haji Bullow, popularly known as Kahiye, has formally exited the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), a political outfit associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing misalignment with his political ambitions and values.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday, Bullow said his decision followed sustained backlash from his community over his association with DCP, prompting a reassessment of his political path.
“I realized the party lacked the proper foundation to advance my political aspirations and did not fully reflect the values I stand for,” Bullow said. “The reaction from my community was a wake-up call.”
He announced that he has since joined the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the move would better position him to advance his agenda and effectively represent his constituents in the next general election.
Bullow also issued a public apology over a viral video clip that had sparked confusion online. In a statement read on his behalf by Abdirashid Mohamed Cato, he clarified that the controversy stemmed from a case of mistaken identity due to similarities in names, and expressed regret to all those affected by the mix-up.
The shift adds to ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, as leaders recalibrate their affiliations in search of parties they believe best align with their ambitions and voter expectations.
