DOZENS KILLED IN DEADLY SHELLING OF AL-DAEIN TEACHING HOSPITAL IN SUDAN.
BY NJOKI KARANJA.
A reported attack on Al-Daein Teaching Hospital in Sudan has left more than 60 people dead and over 100 others injured, according to a statement attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The statement described the incident as a “serious escalation,” alleging that the Sudanese army—referred to in the release as affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood—carried out the bombardment. The death toll has risen to more than 62 people, including at least 12 children, while 113 others were wounded. Most of the victims are reported to be women and children.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams continuing to search for survivors trapped under the rubble, raising fears that the number of casualties could increase further.
The attack adds to a growing pattern of violence targeting civilian infrastructure, particularly medical facilities, amid Sudan’s ongoing conflict. Previous incidents have seen hospitals struck during fighting, worsening an already dire humanitarian situation and limiting access to healthcare for civilians.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal war since April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, a conflict that has triggered widespread displacement, civilian casualties, and international concern over potential war crimes.
There has been no immediate independent verification of the claims surrounding the Al-Daein hospital attack, and no official response from the Sudanese army at the time of reporting.
